Year 2
The Key Stage 1 team are passionate about providing an exciting, purposeful learning environment for all of our children. We recognise the responsibility to nurture and develop each little mind, we view each child as unique and aim to learn from each and every child.
All children in Key Stage 1 are part of the Read Write Inc. program, children are taught by stage not age in small groups. We also use numicon to support us in our learning of maths, this is a hands on resource which helps to deepen children understanding and knowledge of number. We teach foundation subjects in a cross curricular way through exciting topics such as, ‘Land Ahoy’, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and ‘Go Wild’.
Homework is set every week and you will receive the topic based work at the beginning of each half term. Children will then receive weekly spellings and maths homework. All children will be given a reading book to share with their helper at home.
In Key Stage 1 we particularly encourage learning outdoors, our children experience beach school where they spend a whole day learning on the beach where they get to go rock pooling, den making and enjoy camp cooking around the camp fire. We also have our own forest school on site and an outdoor classroom, there is also an outdoor area attached to our Year 1 classroom.
In Key Stage 1, we promote a broad and balanced curriculum, we tackle all concepts in a creative way in order to enthuse and engage the children, we want them to be curious, risk takers who challenge themselves at every opportunity, developing resilience and determination. We encourage children to question the world around them and in doing so this provides them with a deeper level of understanding about what they are learning.
