Physical Education

Leader: Miss. S. Rutter

Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.

– John F Kennedy

Physical Education develops children’s physical skills, confidence, capabilities and potential. It gives opportunities for children to be creative and competitive while learning to work with and respect others.

At Hazlewood Community Primary School children learn how to plan, perform and evaluate actions, often in pairs and small groups, helping them to develop the quality and effectiveness of their work. We promote a positive attitude towards active lifestyles and aim to introduce children to lifelong physical activity. From Reception up to Year 6, all children have access to a range of sporting extra-curricular clubs throughout the year (most clubs are funded by the P.E. Premium and are therefore FREE), children are encouraged to develop their sports skills, health and well-being by attending these.

Our Parentmail Survey sent out in Spring term 2022 highlighted that:

  • 93% of children strongly agree or agree that they enjoy taking part in P.E. lessons
  • 92% of children strongly agree or agree that they recognise the importance of taking part in regular P.E. lessons.
  • 92% of children that attended clubs in the first two terms strongly agree or agree that they enjoy taking part in after school clubs.
