Art & Design

Leader: Mrs. V. Coxon

A high quality Art and Design education should engage, inspire and challenge children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art and design.

As children progress they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Children at Hazlewood Community Primary School will be provided with the opportunities to express themselves imaginatively and creatively and they will be exposed to many sensory experiences. Our children will also experience a variety of techniques and skills to develop their ability in ‘art making’. Art and Design is taught as a separate subject where a new skill or craft is introduced but it can also be used to support or initiate learning in other curriculum areas.
